Rudolph Egan Stewart was one of the first surviving triplets born in Georgetown, Guyana, on May 9, 1936, to Lilian Baird and Walter Stewart.

Rudolph received a BA degree in Political Science from Amherst College, Massachusettes, a Master’s degree and a PhD degree from Iowa State University, Iowa, in Community and Regional Planning. He spent ten years as a marketing specialist for Standard Oil of Ohio before returning home to Guyana to head up the marketing division of Guyana Marketing Corporation as the deputy general manager, and later as a special assistant to the minister at the Ministry of Trade. After his return to the U.S. in 1979 and receiving his graduate degrees, he embarked on a long journey of work in the U.S. Foreign Service, first for USAID in Zambia, and ultimately as a foreign service official for the U.S. State Department in the Africa Division, with focus on Southern African countries, including Nigeria, where he was the resident information officer. He also spent three years as an instructor and adjunct professor at the College of New Jersey and Princeton University, respectively.

Rudy had a huge capacity for kindness and generosity to those with whom he came into contact with. He cared deeply about his family, extended family, and friends, and he willingly opened his heart and home to so many over the years. He was a mentor and father figure for many and left an indelible mark for goodness on most everyone he interacted with. He always strived for excellence in everything he did and encouraged others to do the same. He lived his life fully, enjoyed music, song, and dance, and he loved to travel, especially cruising, and he was the consummate entertainer.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Yut’se, and their three children Robert, Renee, and Raquel, and by Roger, Richard and Penelope; his adorable granddaughter, Zara; sisters, Monica, Jeanette and Claudette; nieces and nephews, Kim, Deborah, Shelly, Keane, Roy, Paul, Keith, Kenneth, Rawle, Peter, and many others; cousins, Valerie, Royston, Norma, Vilma, and CarolAnne; extended family, Marcus and Bassey; many other family members and special friends, including Claude and Maxine. He is predeceased by sisters, Rita and Floi; and brothers, Ronald, Rex, Eustace, Walter and Berkley.

Rudy will be missed by family, extended family, and friends across many states and countries for his love, laughter, encouragement, and his caring and giving heart.
