Rubinetta Qualls Short, affectionately known as Ruby departed this life on Tuesday, May 9t, 2023 at Vistas Health Care in Rockridge, Florida. This Mississippi native lived in Detroit for more than 60 years and moved to Palm Bay, Florida with her daughter and husband during her senior years.

She was the loving mother of three children. Her late husband, Walter Short, a veteran, preceded her in death.
Ruby worked as a para-professional in the public education system in Detroit. She later worked in the healthcare industry and was a sweet, caring, and loving Sitter for home-bound patients.
Ruby was a health enthusiast. She used her Mississippi rearing and garden spirit to develop her vegetable and flower gardens at their home in Detroit. She also was a specialist with ERASE, upholding a healthy living lifestyle.
She enjoyed her friends at the assisted living center, and was the unofficial ‘boss,’ without question. During her 89

birthday celebrations, she showed how much she loved life, receiving many gifts and praise with genuine humility. On her 90
th
birthday celebration, she gave an impactful speech about life, appreciation, and joy.
Ruby leaves to celebrate her life: three children, Dr. Phyllis Qualls, Nashville, TN, Jennifer (Kevin) Nance, Detroit, Jeffery Short, Detroit; four grandchildren, Lovette (Daren) Curry, Atlanta, Shelton Short, Arizona, Kyle Nance and Kolby Nance, Detroit; Two Great Grandchildren, Alexander Curry and Samuel Curry, Atlanta; Four siblings, Ernest (Elsie) Qualls, Tylertown, MS, Stanford (Fronie) Qualls, Bogue Chitto, MS, Jacqueline Qualls (O.D. ) Evans, Monticello, MS, and Vernon (Patricia) Qualls, Bogue Chitto, MS. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, and friends.
