Marietta Irene Schmidt Russo, 92, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, after a brief stay at VITAS Inpatient Hospice Center in Rockledge, Florida. Mrs. Russo was a member of the Chapel of The Holy Family Traditional Catholic Church in Melbourne, Florida. Though short of statue, five foot, the Lord packed a wallop in the Brooklyn born, depression era child of Charles Schmidt, a NY city cab driver and Anna Schuch, a homemaker. She was predeceased by her older siblings, Katherine Schmidt Murphy and Raymond Schmidt with whom she shared adventures as the family moved around the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn. Marietta moved with her parents to Connecticut at age fourteen where she met and married her late beloved husband of forty years, Joseph David Russo. They had four children: Jody Russo (deceased), Robin Russo Nobling of Nashville, Tennessee, Dean Russo (deceased), and Daniel Russo of Riverview, Florida. She enjoyed her grandchildren: Tim Nobling, Michael Nobling, Greg Nobling, Andy Russo, Kristina Russo, and Anthony Russo, their spouses and fiancés Christine Nobling, Jennifer Woodcock, Megan Russo, and Erica Colescio, and great grandchildren: Adam, Ezra, Otto, Ayden, Jordan, Riley, Aliyah, and baby Alex.

Through the years she held a broad variety of jobs. She spent the longest time employed by an independent medical records legal copying service based in Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida. Marietta had a passion for baseball and was an indefatigable fan of the New York Yankees. That lasted to her last days. She was a great lover of tall ships and the sea, pirate lore, and the seashore. She lived in Indian Harbour Beach for over 30 years. Her last years were spent at the Garden Apartments. She loved being there. Swimming was a passion. She was an intrepid lap swimmer and made friends of all ages at the pools she attended at Our Club, the YMCA, and finally LA Fitness. A great lover of music, she set up several music folders on her Grandpad, but was especially known for her love of Michael Bolton. She left an impression on this world and the people in it.
