Margaret Ann Houck, 85, of Melbourne Beach, passed away December 28, 2022.
Margaret Houck, born May 29, 1937 in Lansing MI, went to be with her Savior, Jesus, on December 28, 2022, in Melbourne Beach, Florida. While her body had been steadily deteriorating over the past few years, her spirit and faith only grew stronger. She leaves behind a large family and a big group of friends, vestiges of a life well lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Venabelle Kruger. She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, William Houck, sister, Bonnie Foster (Jim), daughters, Robin Johns (Kevin) and Heather Burks (James), grandchildren, Jazmin Marshall (William), Jesse Burks (Denisse), Autumn Lanier (Patrick), Caleb Burks, Ben Johns, Katie Johns, and nieces, Stacy Kurz and Holly Foster Hollihan. She was also blessed to welcome her seven great grandchildren into the world (Isabelle, Evalyn, Makayah, Joshua, Olivia, Benjamin and Vivienne) along with additional twins on the way.
She attended Everett High school in her hometown of Lansing, MI and worked for Bell telephone and AT&T until her retirement.
Margaret led a life inspired by curiosity and adventure; she satisfied both by traveling the world. Beginning with her mom and dad, and frequent trips to the summer cottage in Gaylord, MI, travel was a constant in her life. From the Galapagos Islands and Hawaii, to the wonders of St. Petersburg in Russia. From the river villages along the Rhine that skirted her favorite, Switzerland, to the countless RV journeys in between, she never tired of the next trip, the next page on the road map, and the next stranger to befriend along the journey. Her adventurous spirit will be missed.
Margaret’s days were full and without regret. Whether it was singing in the choir at the ORA Chapel, beach and water fun in the Atlantic Ocean, evening ice cream with her favorite shows and people, or entertaining family and friends. She came to know herself during her solo travels in mid-life, and with that knowledge she found her home in the world.
Her faithful companion till the end was Itzee, a Deer Head Chihuahua she found in the wilds of western Washington. If you met Itzee, you knew he understood who rescued him.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 11:00am at the ORA Chapel in Melbourne Beach. Address: 214 Horizon Lane, Melbourne Beach FL 32951
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the Salvation Army.
