Josefina "Chongui" Gonzalez was born on April 19, 1971 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. She moved to Bristol, Connecticut in 1999 where she later met her husband, Gervasio "Luie" Sanchez.

Surviving Josefina's death are her spouse, Gervasio "Luie" Sanchez; children: David Hernandez-Mercado, Melissa Hernandez, Jonathan Hernandez-Mercado and Veronica Hernandez; grandchildren: Dalia Hernandez, Layla Rampersadsingh, Joel Rampersadsingh, Damian Hernandez, Jazlyn Hernandez, Jonathan Hernadez-Mercado Jr. and Prince Lemone Poitier. She also leaves a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and devoted friends.
