James Philip Perkins

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Philip Perkins “Jim”, 91, of Palm Bay, FL. Jim passed away on September 15, 2024 at his place of residence.  He was a long-time resident of Brevard County, FL.  He was born on June 29, 1933 to Philip Russell Perkins and Evelyn VanZandt Perkins in Rochester, New York before moving with his parents to Miami, FL at the age of 9.

He graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956 and worked as a mechanical engineer for Harris Corporation for over 40 years.

In addition to being a devoted, strong and loving father, Jim enjoyed fishing, working with his hands and working on cars, traveling, and collecting various items.  He was a member of The Friends of Turkey Creek and he was part of The Genealogical Society of South Brevard for many years.

Jim is survived by his four children Timothy (Melany) Perkins, Scott Philip Perkins, Jeffrey (Heather) Perkins and Susan (Michael) Parsons and their mother Elizabeth Manchester Perkins. He is also survived by four of his late wife’s children. Jim leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Philip R. Perkins (d. 1979), and Evelyn VanZandt Perkins (d. 2000); and his second wife Patricia Kowalski Perkins (d. 2022) and her son Brian Loetscher (d. 2008).

Private services will be held.
