Bonnie Anne Byington Dueweke, 82, of Merritt Island, Florida, passed away on Sunday, July 25 th , 2021. Bonnie was born to her beloved parents Stanley and Constance Byington on May 14th, 1939 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The second born of 8, Bonnie lived a social and vigorous life. She spent summers water skiing and sailing at her family’s cottage on Big Whitefish Lake. She was a vibrant part of her class at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, making friends who she remained close to for her entire life.

Bonnie attended St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, receiving her degree from Holy Cross School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse through her long and successful career, including the emergency departments of several hospitals including St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, and finishing her career at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she is remembered as a skilled and devoted trauma nurse.

In 1962 she met Douglas Gordon Dueweke at her father’s White and White Pharmacy where she worked as a “Soda Jerk”. They wed in 1963 in Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bonnie loved her family and was always looking for opportunities to spend time with them. She was strong in her Catholic faith and remained active with the church, working actively at Divine Mercy Church including administering Holy Communion as a Eucharistic Minister for the Sick. She also loved her friends and loved tennis, continuing to play through her retirement in Merritt Island, Florida, where she was a team captain in the Space Coast Tennis League in the 1990s.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Scott Dueweke (Jennifer) of Leesburg, Virginia, Heidi Carroll (Michael) of Melbourne, Florida and Christopher Dueweke (Carisa) of Cross Junction, Virginia and four beloved grandchildren, Austin Dueweke, Audrey Dueweke, Jack Dueweke and Matthew Dueweke. She is also survived by her siblings, Dick (Sandy) Byington, Noreen (Ken) Hungerford, Sue (Ron) Niedzielski, Bill (Mary) Byington, Molly Meehan and Tim (Cindy) Byington. She is preceded in death by her husband Doug, her parents and older brother John.
